PEE

While you might not give much thought to your urine, scientists and designers are focused on turning human pee into a valuable resource.

An international team of scientists are studying whether the urea present in urine could be used as a plasticizer in a 3D printing mixture suitable for constructing buildings on the lunar surface. And an architecture design researcher created what’s being called the world’s first wearable farm—a cloak like garment that grows plants and crops using water distilled from the wearer’s urine and fertilizer from insects and other human waste.

With almost eight billion humans on the earth, there’s no reason why sustainability principles should not be applied to our own organic components.
