Self-Sterilize

The COVID-19 pandemic boosted the world’s attention on the importance of “sterilization,” which in turn led many health-tech innovators to seek out new ways of easily sterilizing people and things.

Italian lighting company Artemide recently patented a technology that turns standard room lighting into sanitizing light when rooms are vacant. Fitted to light fixtures, the technology makes indoor lighting emit normal light when rooms are occupied, but shifts the light spectrum to virus-killing ultraviolet light rays when rooms are vacated. A crowd-funded tech company managed to quickly receive FDA approval for a transparent N-99-quality filter mask that also self-sterilizes itself with a small UV-C light encased within the filter housing.

Necessity may be the mother of invention, but this shows that a health crisis can be a fertility booster for such mothers.
